Agustin J.
Barrera was first elected to the School Board in November 2002.
He represents District 6, which encompasses the areas of Key
Biscayne, the Roads, East Little Havana, Coral Way, Coconut
Grove, Coral Gables, South Miami and East Kendall.
Mr. Barrera
was born in Havana, Cuba. He emigrated from Cuba to the United
States when he was seven years old. While growing up in Miami, FL,
he attended Shenandoah Middle School, and ultimately graduated
from Miami Senior High School. Mr. Barrera attended Miami-Dade
Community College and went on to receive a Bachelor of Design
from the College of Architecture at the University of Florida
and a Master of Architecture Degree from Florida International
University.
He is
currently the Managing Principal at the Miami office of LEO A
DALY, a national architecture, planning, engineering & interior
design company. Mr. Barrera is a registered architect with more
than twenty-five years of experience in architectural design,
construction administration and project management in
educational, commercial, institutional and aviation related
projects.
Mr. Barrera
has been a devoted member of The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana
since 1994. He served as President from 2001-2003. Mr. Barrera
is on the Advisory Council of the Miami-Dade County Chapter of
Take Stock in Children and on the Board of Directors of The
Education Fund.
He chaired
the Miami Dade County School board from 2005-2008, currently
Chairs the Facilities Management Committee and is the Chair’s
appointee to the Site Planning and Construction Committee.
Mr. Barrera
is married and has two sons.
